Insects are a promising source for sustainable, alternative protein for the animal feed industry, vital to ensuring the wellbeing of a growing human population. But to make a true impact and replace existing components in animal feed, insects must be produced at an industrial scale, all year long, and in a stable manner.

FreezeM is developing novel technologies that will enable to create for the first-time stocks of ready-to-use suspended neonates and frozen eggs – a solution corresponding to the agriculture seed production

Shachar contributes to the environment by supporting a truly green solution. Our primary service is based on accumulation, removal, transportation of food waste to our facility where it recycled. The heart of our service is a unique separation process developed by the company. The process separates the food waste from its packaging. This environmentally friendly service renders the need for landfilling redundant, saves costs and minimizes the exposure associated with landfilling of food waste. We constantly aim to develop and adopt new solutions and capabilities based on cutting edge technologies for the treatment of food waste. Our leading role in the Black Soldier Fly Consortium leverages our unique position which combine food waste recycling technics together with industrial entomology. This combination brings innovation into the Black soldier fly farming.

Entoprotech, established in 2016, is a circular economy company that uses insects (BSF larvae) to processes low-value wastes and byproducts generated along the agri-food supply chain, into high-value products for animal nutrition & health, soil enhancers and more. Rafael Feed was first to develop in Israel unique feed formulation for sheep that is based on whole grains mixed with granulated concentrate.
In the year 2014 we moved to our new feed mill in the industrial park of Emek Hefer in Israel. The new feed mill was designed according to the most innovative technology and meet the latest and strictest standards. Today we produce several thousand tons of animal feed for Broilers, Turkeys, Breeders, Layers, Dairy herds, Calves, Sheep, Fish and Pet food. Our production line, is capable of complying with specific demands from our customers and we are able to produce high quality of mesh feed, pelleted feed and extruded feed. We strictly control the raw material and qualities we purchase in order to assure high professional results and performance of our feed. We are certified by ISO-9001 and H.A.C.C.P and we meet all the restrictive norm. We have the ability to send feed to any point in the world.
Our vision is based on supplying high quality feed, innovative solutions, and maintaining long-term relations with our customer by improving their professional success.

Gutman Lab - The laboratory of Integrative Physiology

My field of interest is Integrative Physiology, i.e., the broader aspects of physiology, involving and integrating mechanisms and regulatory functions at all biological levels spanning from molecular, cellular, tissue, and organs to animal models and human physiology. Currently, the research aims of my research group are to study the usage of black soldier fly larvae as an alternative source of protein for feed and food; and to better understand mechanisms underlying energy homeostasis (body weight regulation), longevity, circadian physiology, and their mutual interaction. We use animal models and methods ranging from molecular and analytical chemistry to whole-animal and human calorimetry and locomotor activity measurements.

Our research group focuses on olfactory processes in flies using genetic, pharmacological, physiological and behavioral approaches. Flies use odorants to identify and locate food, mates, and oviposition sites. We have identified evolutionarily conserved odorant receptors that mediate oviposition site detection. We are also developing machine learning tools to monitor and diagnose oviposition efficiency in BSF.
